About the artist

Bruce Johansen is receiving acclaim as a modern artist after a successful career in the film and television industries. His dramatic acrylics and oils are known for going “beyond the canvas” in capturing the unique essence of color and form.

Johansen grew up in the San Francisco Bay area. After two years of undergraduate study at Antioch College, Ohio he subsequently graduated from San Francisco State University with a B.A. in Communications while working at KSFR FM and KDFC FM in San Francisco and KCRA in Sacramento. After graduation he moved to Paris where he was captivated by the great French impressionists and modern art movement. This is where he began a lifelong passion for painting in various media. To support himself, he worked as a voice-over artist in Paris and Rome for various European studios and production companies. His voice may be heard in over 1000 films, including A MAN AND A WOMAN.

Bruce returned to the states in the early 70's where he continued his career as Vice President and General Manager of KBSC TV, Los Angeles and then as an executive in television production and distribution fot Multimedia Entertainment. He was ultimately responsible for international sales of DONAHUE, SALLY JESSY RAPHAEL, JERRY SPRINGER and other television programs.

From 1992 to 2003 he was President and CEO of the National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE) in Los Angeles, a world-wide trade association representing executives in the production, distribution and marketing of television programming.

He currently resides in Palm Springs and spends the summer months at his home in Southwest France near Toulouse.  He is active in a number of community organizations and guest lectures on the television industry.
